Swinging Squares The Swinging Squares first class was organized by Gail Brunson in September of 1960. She convinced Ivan Sells to teach eleven interested couples, and in December 1960, the Swinging Squares held their first dance at the Melrose Methodist Church. By the fall of 1968, the Swinging Squares had grown to 70 couples. This required a larger hall, so the club moved their dances to the Minute Circle Friendly House. After Ivan Sells retired from calling in December 1970, Dick Naudet took over the job. His first dance as official caller of the Swinging Squares was on January 16, 1971. On January 13, 1996, our club celebrated 25 years of superb calling by the best "hot hash" caller in the area. Our thanks to Dick and Dot Naudet for their years of service and dedication to our club. Our appreciation also goes out to all the past and present Swinging Squares members who have worked so diligently over the years to guarantee the success of our club. Club No Longer Dancing |
