Ronald Edward Swartz
 December 20, 1945 ~ January 5, 2026

Ronald was born to Edward and Lela Swartz on December 20, 1945, in St. Joseph, Missouri, a life given by his Lord. On April 14, 1957, he was baptized and became a child of God. Ron spent his formative years in Leavenworth, Kansas, where he attended Leavenworth High School and graduated with the Class of 1963. He continued his education at College of Emporia, earning a bachelor's degree in business. Ron served his country in the Kansas National Guard as part of the 69th Infantry Brigade. When the brigade was federalized and activated for the Vietnam War, he served at Fort Carson, fulfilling his duty with honor. Ron moved back to Leavenworth and proceeded to enter a new profession with Kansas Power and Light retiring in 2002. He enjoyed square dancing with his wife. In addition, he was a square dance caller for 25 years. Ron also thoroughly enjoyed wood carving. Ron lived his life for Christ, demonstrating his faith through both words and actions. In 1971, he joined the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod, where he remained a dedicated and active member throughout his life. Ron served his church community in many capacities, always willing to share his faith and support others in their spiritual journeys.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lela Swartz, his older brother Bill and spouse Patricia, his sister Joyce Bachtel, and Cousin in-law Don Stiles. Their memory remains cherished by those who knew and loved them.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Carol Swartz; his son, Kent Swartz; his daughter, Heather Drake (John); and his 8 grandchildren. Ron is also survived by his sisters Diane Nixon (Dennis) and Cheryl Matto (Julius), his brother-in-law Don Bachtel, his cousin Linda Morris-Stiles, and nieces and nephews. These loved ones continue to honor and remember Ronald’s legacy.

On January 5, 2026, God blessed Ron with a holy death and welcomed him into heaven to receive a crown of life. His body will be laid to rest at Risen Savior Cemetery in Basehor, Kansas where he awaits the resurrection at Christ’s return. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” As we reflect on the life and passing of Ron, we are reminded that each moment is held in God’s care. The Lord gives and the Lord takes away; blessed be the name of the Lord. In this time of sorrow and remembrance, we offer our gratitude to God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—for the gift of Ron’s life. We find comfort in the promise that, through Christ, we will one day be reunited with all those who have gone before us in faith.

In remembrance of Ron, the family kindly requests that, in place of sending flowers, friends and loved ones consider making a donation to the Risen Savior Cemetery Fund. These contributions will be used to plant a tree in Ron’s honor, serving as a living tribute to his memory. Additionally, donations may be directed to the Risen Savior Foundation Fund for the purpose of laying a stone in his honor. These acts will create lasting memorials, reflecting Ron’s impact and the legacy he leaves behind.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 12, 2026 at Risen Savior Lutheran Church from 5:00 - 7:00 PM  .

Funeral service will be held at the church on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at 11:00 AM.

Burial will follow at Risen Savior Cemetery.
